meet the cockers

A little over a year ago I fell in love with a ceramic rooster I found at Village Merchants. He was colorful, cocky, and I HAD to have him. He sat on my shelf, lonely and alone, for about two months; it was not long until I decided he should have some friends. Thus began my 'Cock Collection'- I'd like to introduce you.

This is the lil guy who started it all. I love his coloring and big curvy tail feathers. Village Merchants, early 2009.

Tara brought this one back for me from Hawaii... or NY. I forget which. I later found him a brother. Early 2009.

This cock was the first to break the mold: instead of being glossy, he has a matte finish. Katy gave him to me as a birthday gift. May 2009.

Later that year Katy and I were in La Grand for the Eastern Oregon Film Fest. I wrote a $4 check to make Miss Thang all mine. August, 2009.

Another one breaks the mold: again, from one of Tara's adventures. He's the only guy who's metal! He's the black sheep of the flock. Late 2009.

Another thrift store find. This spring chicken came from Goodwill in Roseburg. Late 2009.

This gem came from Ross- the place, not the person. Another one breaking the mold- this one is not ceramic. It's some sort of weird resin-y plastic. Early 2010.

MORE ROSS- how can I resist if I find one I like? I have never seen one that costs more than $5 there! And he's obviously related to the first one Tara gave me. I had to get him. Early 2010.

Twenty fourth birthday gift- mini cock! From Katy. May 2010.

More from Village Merchants. He's a lil squatty, but still full of cuteness. Summer 2010.

Last but not least: From my favorite Goodwill. This is the first one I have purchased that is imperfect. You can see where he's been broken and glued back together- I love him too much to care. Late Summer 2010.

And there you have it. They fit perfectly above the entry room window in my new house. If you ever spot one while out and about, let me know! I think they are the first things I have ever really collected.

Do you collect things? What are they? How many do you have? On collections: I've learned to never assume you know what someone wants to collect, or that they even want to collect in the first place. I've been given multiple versions of things I just don't want and while I appreciate the sentiment, I just don't keep them. But you can be sure, roosters and hens are always welcome. :)
