I moved! I live here now:
It is 12 blocks from my old house, and 4 real big pals have replaced my perpetually stoned, perpetually late with rent WTS the III. Thank goodness. My new room is a lot smaller but I'm looking forward to unloading a lot of what I moved here- I already donated nearly a car full and I have another to drop off tomorrow, it feels nice! Things I'm having a hard time parting with include books (I can check them out at the library, right?!), furniture (I don't want to have to buy that again!), and various odds and ends of sentimental value (I should just take a picture, I know!). I could also stand to get rid of many clothes that no longer fit/I haven't worn but somehow I always convince myself I'll wear them... eventually. Sigh. I need Katy Wolf to tell me NO NO NO and help me get my shit together!
So, so far the new yr has been a whirlwind of boxes and packing, cleaning, taking mental inventory of what I own and should no longer, PLUS doing inventory at work- numbers foreva! I do love inventory at work, it's a nice change of pace and I do enjoy the routine of count, eat, count. This year I actually have FRIDAYS AND SATURDAYS OFF- can it be true?! I never imagined this would happen, and I could hardly be more thrilled! Let's have adventures!
Although the last week has been exciting an unfortunate result is the fact that I haven't fully gotten my 'fundraiser' together. Vivian, the new administrator at Hawthorne Gardens, sent me this flowery message in response to my SUPER EXCITED SOUNDING inquiry about the hows and whats of donating money to the activities department:
"Hello.
Because we are a "for profit" business, we are legally not able to have fundraiser's"
Um, yeah. Literally, JUST THAT. No oh my gosh that's neat, or that sounds wonderful but we can't- just a matter-of-fact-but-I'm-pretty-sure-incorrect and NO PERIOD one liner. Jaaaeeez! So in the middle of the unpacking storm I am attempting to find some more information regarding the legalities of fundraising and why I can't do it, for them. She didn't say I can't have one, she said we- which I assume means Hawthorne Gardens themselves. Whether or not I, as a volunteer, am included is up in the air. After emailing her no more than 10 minutes after this response I still have not heard a word from her. How freaking crazy is that?!? Definitely going to find a way around this. I'm partially convinced based on some semi solid evidence that whole building has it out for activities. I probably shouldn't talk about this here. But I do want to let you know I got some new and better tote bags, and they will be selling for $12, $5 of which will hopefully be going to some life enrichment. Maybe if I call it a Fun-drazer? Whatev. I'm gonna do it!
