In my dreams, I am getting ready to go here:

By dreams I mean my reality five days ago. Early this past spring I was invited to join some pals for a family style hike into the GC- 36 miles round trip. I started preparing a couple of weeks ago- new trail running shoes, super special awesome sweat-wicking shirt, nice hiking socks and a borrowed backpacking pack/air mattress, etc. etc. AND THEN. The phone call.
Havasupai Canyon is closed until further notice due to XXXTREME weather conditions! Can you believe it? Well I can. The GC is a magical, breathtaking, majestic destination but also rather unpredictable and potentially treacherous. So. While Katy is adventuring in Peru with her mom, and Janine is frolicking on the sunny shores of Hawaii, I will be breaking in my trail runners with pals in Eugene and then snuggling my family for a week in Roseburg. Am I disappointed? A lil. But we've rescheduled for May! Which means:
-Josh can now come along, assuming he isn't across the country for work again, +1
-May is my BIRTHDAY month. BIRTHDAY CAKES IN THE GC Y'ALL, +1
-Now I can spend a much needed week with my family fending off cuddly dogs, squeezing my Gmas, and thrifting til I can't thrift no mo'. I don't know if you know, but Roseburg is a treasure trove full of old goodies. It's a retirement town, and I'm pretty sure when the elderly kick the bucket their families donate all of their pristine belongings to ME. I'm gonna round up all the grampa sweaters, dresses, shoes and cocks for my collection I can manage! +1
-I don't have to worry about spending my vacation being struck by lighting, toppling over a cliff, or washed away by a flood, +1
Grand Canyon, 0
Whatever I'm over it, +4
