snowboarding and the shop

Yesterday Josh and I went up to Mt. Hood Meadows with Janine and one of her pals. I got Josh a ski pass for Christmas since he's a pro and loves and misses it, and I decided to try snowboarding, so I got myself a 2 hour lesson. But what did I actually end up with?! A twisted knee and an even greater fear of flying down a hill on something that's not a sled! Yuck. The instructor kept telling our class, this should be fun! And asking us, Are you having fun? But really, I was not having fun, and I probably won't try again. Even the 'Ballroom Carpet' (the baby hill that's at about a 35 degree incline) was a little too steep for me. I understand how people can try it once and get hooked, but I don't forsee a love blossoming between the two of us. No thank you!

On to MUCH more important things. Have you visited the shop lately?! There's a link over there, on your right- do you see it? I haven't updated you on it yet but last Tuesday, March 1st, was the grand opening of my new shop, Much Finer Things. What started out as a store full of photographs and progressed to bags and purses has now become a mostly clothing store full of vintage and newer pieces for ladies. I'll add men's things in the future, too! There are also books on the way, and some jewelry, and who knows what else might pop up. I've toyed with this idea in the past, but all of the sudden it was like it just happened. One day I was out thrifting and I bought some things I liked but definitely didn't fit me, they were just too good to pass up! Then I found myself asking, Did I just buy these for a shop I don't even have yet?? The answer was YES, and I've been cultivating a collection that greatly reflects my personal taste but doesn't necessarily heed trends or seasons. Please click the photo below to visit and have a look around! EVERYTHING is 20% until March 16th! I'll be listing  a few new things in the next few days and you can follow along on Twitter, @muchfinerthings, to stay up to date on updates!

ghosty getaway

This weekend Josh and I decided on a whim to getaway from Portland and spend another night out at the Grand Lodge. When I called they had a king, queen, and bunk rooms available- we took the bunks! They're only $40 a night. We got out there early in the evening, got some pizza, Guiness, a movie and we were set. Remember last time I mentioned room 221 is haunted? Well GUESS which room we stayed in?! 220! Just next door. They have a ghost log at the front desk full of spooky stories from people have spent the night or just visited and I was tempted to check it regarding our room but Josh knew better and recommended I wait til the morning so I could actually get some sleep. Of COURSE I was still scared (ghosts terrify me) and convinced him to move the top bunk's mattress onto the floor so we could stay next to each other and I could be protected in the cage of the bottom bunk/him on one side- ahahahaha. The next day the only thing I really found in the ghost log was something about the energy changing for one woman. Maybe she was just drunk? DOUBT IT.

We took a dip in the soaking pool and there was still snow on the ground- so lovely. The next day we drove out to Hagg Lake for a little hike. Lots of snow out there too!

Yay weekends!

kayakin around

After a year of this kayak gettin dusty in Josh's basement, we finally took her out for her maiden voyage. We went to a little spot on the river in St. John's and set her down in water that was totally disgusting and looked filled with poo. Josh managed to keep himself a float and there were no holes to be found. Can't wait to take this out for summer adventures! Yes, we strapped it to the car on a yoga mat. Hooray!

Success! Oh yeah, did I mention he built this? Yeah, he built it. Sucha badass.

biznuss men

I love men in suits! A few months ago I decided I wanted to go downtown at lunch time to try and photograph some dapper lads all suited up on their way to a snack. I made Adam come with me, it was a pretty sunny day, we found a good place to park and all seemed well...

But then we started walking around. And there they were, the businessmen, in their suits. And I got shy. Really shy. Too shy! To ask if I could take their pictures. Too shy to even sneak a picture! I've never really been a shy person but for some reason I was frozen. I realized my dreams of a magazine-like photoshoot could only be realized with a mimosa or three.

I was cleaning out a photo folder yesterday and found the pictures I did finally grow the guts to sneak- and here they are. Not my best, so hilarious!

 Angry suit!

Cell phone suit!

Crosswalk suits! Concentration suit (well, jacket)

 .... Adam?

A younger Donald Trump suit... kind of!

 Happy group suits!

 See ya suits!

 Chatty suits! Nonchalant suits!

Totally caught me suit!

And, the only one I asked to take a picture of:
Grandpa suit!

It was a good day.
