I don't remember how I stumbled across these, but they are stunning. I could spend hours browsing this archive, National Library of Australia's 'Picture Australia.' A search for 'mug shots' reveals a magnitude of faces & their crimes. Here are some of my favorites!

A while ago when I decided I should start getting my favorite photographs (by me) together I also started thinking about how people who take pictures differentiate themselves from the rest of the crowd. What is different about their shots? Then I started thinking about all the different things you can physically do to a photograph after it's been taken.. cut it up, glue things on it, paint it, write or draw on it. Then I thought about sewing... why not sew a photograph!??! So I tried it. I started with thread and sewed an outline around a rose. I liked it alright, it looked neat with light coming through behind it. But then I had an even neater idea... why not EMBROIDER one? So I totally did.

Yay! I love the way it turned out. It looks even neater in person. I am doing these for a series called Stitched in Time. This shit is so satisfying. I feel like I was born to make these. If I had seen them some place else I would have kicked myself and wondered, Why didn't I think of that? They're probably out there, but I've never seen them. Embroidered photographs, who woulda thought?

Josh helped me matte it last night. It's going up in the LUTS store, although when I get a few more together I might try a few of my favorite cafes to see if they'd be willing to let me hang them for awhile. I love Bare Bones on Belmont & they frequently have some pretty crappy (sry) art... maybe they wouldn't mind!?

I did it! Something I was thinking about doing, but wasn’t sure I would do, but really wanted to do- there are now things to buy from this space. Well, pretty much from this space, but some things I get from other places- then I bring them here! Right now there are photographs. Soon there will be some things pretty, the beginning of a series, and a way to donate to some real big pals. Have a look around!

I will be introducing some new things real real soon. I have been working on a project that I am ADDCITED to. Well, two actually. One I’ll be putting up as soon as its finished, and the other debuts December 1^st. You will also find a lil something I was thinking of kinda sorta on the side. I am tasked with this huge project: going through a box full of disorganized-to-the-point-of-tears photo CDs and negatives in an effort to pick out what I feel have been my best shots, so far. Here are a few things I've really liked and kind of forgotten about:

 A frosty day.

 A 4 legged friend at Wildlife Safari.

 Yellow roses from a pal.

 From my first ever roll of double exposures.

... this one is actually really recent. Maybe it's too dark, but I love it.

The first four are 35mm shots and the last is digital. I've definitely noticed most of the pictures I'm picking out are 35mm. I have a Minolta Maxxum 50- it has my heart forever. I was once loaned one by a friend who wasn't using it, and I used it for months and months before someone stole it out of my car. The friend and I weren't talking much at that point, and he was living in France I think... luckily I was able to get the same camera on Ebay for $80, which I was more than willing to fork over. He never got it back.Every time I shoot with this gem I'm reminded how much I love it and never want to put it down.
